Tony winner Cynthia Nixon revealed that she is engaged to longtime girlfriend Christine Marinoni at the Broadway Impact rally for marriage equality on May 17.
Broadway Impact, co-founded by Hair star and Tony nominee Gavin Creel, Jenny Kanelos and Rory O'Malley, leads the theater community in supporting the marriage equality bill. The well-attended event featured performances by four-time Tony winner Audra McDonald, Broadway regular Cheyenne Jackson and the cast of Hair as well as appearances by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Paterson.
At the rally, Nixon flaunted a diamond ring and proclaimed that she became engaged last week. She also made it clear that she wanted to get married to Marinoni in “our city” rather than travel to one of the few states where same-sex marriage is already legal. Marinoni was in attendance as part of the audience, as were Nixon’s two children, Samantha and Charles.
Nixon received a 2006 Tony Award for her performance in Rabbit Hole and has appeared on Broadway inThe Women, Indiscretions, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Angels In America, Hurlyburly and The Real Thing. Her most recent New York theatrical credit was the off-Broadway production of Distracted, which closed on May 17. She won an Emmy Award for Sex and the City and starred in the film version of the popular TV series.
