Richard Thomas will join the previously announced James Spader in the forthcoming world premiere of Race, written and directed by David Mamet, according to Variety. The play will begin previews on November 17 and open on December 6 at Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre. No information about the storyline of Race has been revealed.
Thomas will appear in a production of Terrence McNally’s Unusual Acts of Devotion at La Jolla Playhouse this summer. Best known as John Boy on the TV series The Waltons, he made his Broadway debut 50 years ago as John Roosevelt in Sunrise at Campobello. Thomas’ Broadway credits include A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, Democracy, The Front Page, Fifth of July, Everything in the Garden, The Playroom and Strange Interlude. Off-Broadway credits include The Stendhal Syndrome, Tiny Alice, Square One, Love Letters, The Seagull and a 2005 Shakespeare in the Park production of As You Like It. Thomas headlined the recent national tour of Twelve Angry Men.
