Jonny Lee Miller will join previously announced star Sienna Miller in Roundabout Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Patrick Marber’s After Miss Julie. The play, adapted from Strindberg’s Miss Julie and directed by Mark Brokaw, begins previews on September 18 at the American Airlines Theatre with opening set for October 22. The limited engagement plays through December 6. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
After Miss Julie is a radical reimagining of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, the1888 play about sex and class. Marber's take on the piece relocates Strindberg’s story to an English country house on the eve of the British Labour Party’s historic landslide election victory in 1945. The play originally debuted at London’s Donmar Warehouse in November 2003, starring Kelly Reilly, Richard Coyle and Helen Baxendale and directed by Michael Grandage.
Miller (who is not related to his co-star) will make his Broadway debut with After Miss Julie. He starred in the ABC series Eli Stone and in movies that include Hackers (co-starring his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie), Trainspotting, The Flying Scotsman, Melinda and Melinda, Afterglow, Behind the Lines, Mansfield Park and Plunkett & Maclean. His stage credits include the revival of Frank McGuinness’ Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me on London’s West End, Festen, The Play What I Wrote, Democracy, Four Knights in Knaresborough and Beautiful Thing.
The design team for After Miss Julie includes Allen Moyer (sets), Michael Krass (costumes), Mark McCullough (lights) and David Van Tieghem (original Music & sound). The show will be produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company in association with Sonia Friedman Productions and Ostar Productions.
