It’s a girl and a girl for Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker. The surrogate mom carrying the couple’s twins gave birth on June 22, and Barbara Walters announced the happy news on The View. It’s the second and third child for the famous New Yorkers, who have a son, six-year-old James Wilkie. Broderick and Parker are reportedly with the birth mother in Martins Ferry, Ohio (just a few hours from Parker’s childhood home of Cincinnati).
Publicist Simon Halls issued the following statement on behalf of the couple: “Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are delighted to announce the healthy arrival of their two daughters at 3:58 p.m. on June 22 in Ohio. Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz., and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 pounds. Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker’s side. The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon.”
Two-time Tony winner Broderick (Brighton Beach Memoirs, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) is just about to wrap up a Broadway run in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of The Philanthopist. Theater vet Parker—whose last NYC stage appearance was headlining David Lindsay-Abaire’s Wonder of the World in 2001—has been spending most of her time on movies of late; her next hotly anticipated project is theSex and the City sequel, slated for a May 28, 2010 release.
