Julius Caesar, Starring Denzel Washington, Sets B'way Dates

The upcoming Broadway mounting of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, starring Denzel Washington, has set Broadway dates. The production, directed by Daniel Sullivan, will begin previews at the Belasco Theater on March 8 in preparation for an April 3 opening.

In the drama, Caesar's tyrannical rule of Rome divides the city, the Senators and his friends. But his assassination does not help matters, sending the people of Rome into warring factions as the city descends into bloody civil chaos. Washington is set to play Brutus, one of the men who plots to murder Caesar.

The design staff for Julius Caesar includes set designer Ralph Funicello, costume designer Jess Goldstein, lighting designer Mimi Jordan Sherin and sound designer Dan Moses Schreier.

Dracula, The Musical, the Belasco's current tenant, is scheduled to end its run there on January 2.
