Before Chester Gregory was cast as novice cop Eddie Souther (aka “Sweaty Eddie”) in the soulful Broadway musical
Sister Act, he originated the roles of Dupree in
Cry-Baby and Terk in
Tarzan and took over the role of Seaweed J. Stubbs in
Hairspray. Pre-Broadway, Gregory wowed audiences—and
Hairspray producers—as the exuberant title character in the touring production of
The Jackie Wilson Story.
