Known primarily as Shakespearean actor, Mark Rylance served as the first artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre from 1996-2006. Rylance earned a Tony Award for his debut Broadway performance in Boeing Boeing. He returned to Broadway twice during the 2010-2011 season, in La Bete and Jerusalem, for which he earned his second Tony Award. Rylance made his New York Shakespeare debut with the rep productions Twelfth Night and Richard III on Broadway.
