13 Makes Broadway Feel Young Again at Big Opening
The Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre was filled with youthful energy on October 5, as spry new teen tuner 13 opened on Broadway. Boasting an original pop-rock score by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, book by self-proclaimed kids-at-heart Dan Elish and Robert Horn, dance moves by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli, direction by Jeremy Sams and an entire stage full of exuberant young triple threats, the show schooled an all-ages audience on the definition of growing pains, showcasing the agonies of adolescent social climbing and perils of junior high. After a rousing standing ovation officially welcomed the underage cast and orchestra to Broadway, 13’s collective student body headed to nearby Opera for an opening night party its guests-of-honor (and enthusiastic chaperones) won’t soon forget.
