A Jolly Fete for the Encores! Staging of Juno
There were smiles to spare on March 30 as New York's City Center bid adieu to Encores! second production of the season, Marc Blitzstein and Joseph Stein's Juno. Based on the 1924 play Juno and the Paycock by Sean O'Casey, the show—about an Irish family struggling to stay together during the political unrest of 1920s Dublin—premiered on Broadway in 1959. Starring Tony Award winner Victoria Clark and directed by Tony Award winner Gary Hynes, the Encores! production was the first in nearly 50 years to use the original show's orchestrations.
