A Splashy B'way Opening for The Frogs

It's not easy being green, and it's even less easy being attacked by freakishly huge amphibians during a perilous journey to hell. But Nathan Lane, Roger Bart and the rest of the company of The Frogs were able to kick back a bit at Tavern on the Green for the opening night party on July 22. The Frogs, directed by Susan Stroman, is loosely based on a comedy written in 405 B.C. by Aristophanes. The story was freely adapted by the late Burt Shevelove, even more freely adapted by Lane, and set to music by Stephen Sondheim. It is the tale of a Greek god's quest to save mankind from destruction by voyaging to Hades to seek inspiration from great writers. Green with envy for having missed the soiree? Don't fret.
