All Rise for Laurence Fishburne in Thurgood

A one-man show starring the mighty Laurence Fishburne, Thurgood officially opened on Broadway April 30. Directed by Leonard Foglia and written by George Stevens Jr., the show tells the story of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American to serve on the United States Supreme Court. The audience at the Booth Theatre was an appropriately eclectic mix: Movie stars (Paul Newman, Leelee Sobieski), political types (James Carville, Al Sharpton) theater folk (Donna Murphy, Lillias White) and family (the real-life Marshall's wife and son) were onhand to welcome Fishburne back to the boards for the first time in nine years. After the curtain call, it was off to the Bryant Park Grill for dinner and post-show debate. Order in the court!
