Playing the leading man in a classic, romantic off-Broadway revival? Pretty cool. Returning to said show after winning TV’s The Amazing Race with a slick $500,000 prize in your pocket (okay, not physically in your pocket, but you know what we mean)? Even better. That’s what life has been like lately for off-Broadway’s Nick Spangler, who returned to The Snapple Theater on December 10 for his first bow in The Fantasticks since the popular reality show declared he and sister Starr the winners (the young performer had to keep his life-altering news a secret from everyone, including his castmates and girlfriend, until The Amazing Race’s finale episode aired on December 7). After a whirlwind, coast-to-coast media frenzy to discuss his success, Spangler is happy to be back home and performing nightly…though something tells us the celebratory post-show drinks may have been on him this time.
