An Opening Night Ball for Vampires
The buzzworthy Dance of the Vampires opened at the Minskoff Theatre on December 9 after an extended preview period and a consistently strong showing at the box office. The new musical by Jim Steinman, Michael Kunze and David Ives is a combination of horror, camp, romance and power ballads that stars original Phantom of the Opera star Michael Crawford as the central bloodsucker. Director John Rando and choreographer John Carrafa (reunited after their triumphant Urinetown collaboration) guided a cast that features both fresh faces (Mandy Gonzalez, Max von Essen) and familiar ones (Rene Auberjonois).
