Awake and Singing, Spring Awakening Opens Off-Broadway
High School Musical it's not. Based on Frank Wedekind's controversial classic, the new musical Spring Awakening opened on June 15 starring a buoyant young cast with enough energy to put those Disney kids on serious alert. Directed by Michael Mayer and produced by the Atlantic Theater Company in association with Oscar-nominated actor Tom Hulce, Spring Awakening features a score by composer Duncan Sheik and librettist/lyricist Steven Sater. Following the opening performance, the entire company and its supporters departed the Chelsea-based theater and ventured further west to the Meatpacking district for a bash at Lotus. Check it out.
