Broadway Bids Fond Farewell to Adolph Green
On the day after what would have been his 88th birthday, Broadway bid a fond farewell to a Adolph Green, the beloved icon of musical theater, who died on October 23. The Shubert Theatre housed the memorial and was filled with stories, laughter and, of course, music. Mayor Bloomberg even sent a proclamation that declared December 3, "Adolph Green Day." The afternoon featured performances by Green's wife Phyllis Newman, daughter Amanda (son Adam was also in attendance) and lifelong collaborator Betty Comden as well as many of Broadway's brightest stars and some of Green's closest friends. As Miss Comden said at the end of her performance, "It was more fun with Adolph." Indeed.
