Broadway Folks Attend the Final Dress Rehearsal for NYCO's Candide
The New York City Opera staged its final dress rehearsal of Candide on April 7 with a little help from some Broadway friends. Daniel Reichard, fresh from Jersey Boys, stars in the title role alongside Broadway vets Richard Kind and Judith Blazer. Directed by Arthur Masella, the operetta features one of Leonard Bernstein's finest scores, a book by Hugh Wheeler and lyrics by Richard Wilbur (with additional contributions by Bernstein, John LaTouche and someone named Stephen Sondheim). The beloved piece—about a young optimist whose rosy outlook gets tested by life's hard knocks—is playing at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center.
