It's no secret that the Variety Arts Theatre, one of the most desirable off-Broadway venues, was once best known as an illicit porno theater. How appropriate that Elaine May chose to bring her new comedy Adult Entertainment to the East Village venue. After all, the show deals with a bunch of pornographic performers trying to create their own movie. Danny Aiello heads up the hilarious ensemble, which was directed by the legendary film director Stanley Donen. We put on our trenchcoats and caught the show on opening night—December 12—and then headed across the street to Cafe de Ville for the post-show celebration.
