On the afternoon of June 5 at off-Broadway's New World Stages the 63rd annual Theatre World Awards held court, giving out a dozen honors to the season's most outstanding Broadway and off-Broadway debuts, according to seven journalists who cover the New York theater beat. It was a passing of the guard kind of ceremony as former winners such as the legendary Barbara Cook and Rosemary Harris, as well as working performers (and current Tony nominees) Boyd Gaines, Michael Cerveris and Raul Esparza, bestowed the Theatre World trophies to the 2007 winners: Eve Best, Mary Birdsong, Erin Davie, Xanthe Elbrick, Fantasia Barrino, Johnny Galecki, Jonathan Groff, Gavin Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stark Sands, and Nilaja Sun. Only recipient Bill Nighy wasn't available to attend. He was out of town. But we weren't! Check it out.
