Garden of Earthly Delights Reaches Full Bloom on Opening Night

Almost 25 years after its acclaimed New York premiere, the revival of Martha Clarke’s Garden of Earthly Delights officially opened at off-Broadway’s Minetta Lane Theatre on November 19. Based on Hieronymous Bosch’s evocative painting—a triptych that represents Heaven, Earth and Hell—the visionary performance piece incorporates elements of dance, music, theater and art to create an experience that may defy category yet never fails to bring on the critical raves. After the show, Clarke, her dancers and the show’s crew gathered at the nearby Panchito’s restaurant to load up on chips and salsa while reading all the incoming praise on their BlackBerrys.
