The 17th Annual
Gypsy of the Year Competition, held on December 6 at the Neil Simon Theatre, was the grand finale of six weeks of fast and furious fundraising for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. With 59 Broadway, off-Broadway, and national tour companies pitching in, the effort raised a whopping $2,972,721 (over $200,000 higher than last year). The Odd Couple's Brad Garrett and Lee Wilkof, and featured several performances.
The Lion King won the award for Best Performance again, while
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was runner-up for their number. The celebrity judges included Bryan Batt,
Souvenir star Judy Kaye, producer Hal Luftig, and Andrea McArdle. Congrats, everyone!
