Hairspray's Starry Opening Night
Hairspray has gone from a question mark to a Broadway smash in the course of the past couple of weeks the old fashioned way--amazing word of mouth. So much positive buzz has emerged from the Neil Simon Theatre since the show started previews there last month that the stress of opening night seemed more like a technicality than anything else. Sure, the critics wound up liking the show, but the people spoke first! Broadway.com was first in line to cheer on the stars and creators at the show's bash at Roseland following the emotional opening night curtain call on August 15. We even snuck off to the very V.I.P. after-party at the garment district drag club Escuelita.
