The huge audience assembled from near and far for the world premiere in Toronto of the J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired musical stage production of
The Lord of the Rings. The $27 million (Canadian) extravaganza, which opened on March 23 at the 2,000-seat Princess of Wales Theatre, features 70 performers -- actors and musicians, including the Tony Award-winning Canadian star Brent Carver -- and direction by Matthew Warchus, who co-adapted the novel with Shaun McKenna. Afterwards it seemed that all of Toronto came out to attend the gala opening night party at the swanky Fairmont Royal York Ballroom. How could we not seize the travel opportunity?
