Mike Nichols Puts It On The Line

After Oprah, "Mike Nichols Presents…" is about as good as it gets in show biz. And down at the newly refurbished Cherry Lane Theatre in the West Village that's what playwright/performer Joe Roland received on April 12 when his new play On the Line opened, with the powerhouse director taking on the role of lead producer for the showcase production of this newbie scribe. Starring Roland, David Prete and John Zibell as a trio of blue collar workers on the verge of a strike, On the Line's limited run (through April 23rd) was attended by a glittering crowd at its premiere. Afterwards, the whole gang tramped over to the Fat Cat Billiards Club on Christopher Street for an opening night celebration that included picking up the sticks and shooting a few games.
