Broadway's tastemakers met May 19 to celebrate the winners of the New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards, which bestowed honors upon
August: Osage County and
Passing Strange for their superior written texts of a play and a musical, respectively.
August's playwright, Tracy Letts, and
Passing Strange's author Stew toasted their success with critics as well as presenters Edward Albee and Marian Seldes (as well as assorted show players and theater supporters) at the legendary Algonquin Hotel, the same location where the New York Drama Critics' Circle was founded in 1935. The happy winners, which were selected out of a competitive pool of nominations, will rub elbows again shortly—both were recently nominated for Tony Awards. Click here to enter the elite circle!
