Judging from the opening night reaction, audiences are thrilled to have Thorton Wilder's evergreen Our Town back on Broadway, where it opened at the Booth Theatre on December 4. Of course, the presence of an Oscar-winning film icon in the cast spiced up the procedings a bit. Yes, it's true--Paul Newman has returned to the New York stage after an absence of almost 40 years. The role of Stage Manager fits Newman like a glove, offering him plenty of opportunities to wax poetically about aging and the preciousness of life. Newman isn't the only star in director James Naughton's production--he is surrounded by pros like Jayne Atkinson, Frank Converse, Jane Curtin, Jeffrey DeMunn, Mia Dillon, Stephen Spinella and a fabulous newcomer by the name of Maggie Lacey in the pivotal role of Emily (Broadway's last Emily was Helen Hunt, so good things seem t
