Sex and the Great White Way: Stage and Screen Vets Welcome Sex and the City
It was all great shoes and glamour at Radio City Music Hall on May 27 as the much anticipated Sex and the City movie made its sparkling local debut after years (and we mean years) of anxious waiting and speculation. Thousands of fans gathered for a glimpse of the show's femme foursome and their designer digs, teetering on towering heels and lining up for hours for the chance to take in the premiere themselves. So what exactly does a TV-turned-silver-screen phenomenon have to do with Broadway (aside from it making its hometown debut in one very impressive theatre)? Well, like Law and Order and CSI before (and after) it, SATC has thoughtfully provided more local stage veterans with small screen roles (and paychecks) than almost any other show in recent memory (the film also gave bit parts to Broadway stars like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Annaleigh Ashford and Kate Rockwell, to name a few).
