Andrew Lloyd Webber's
Tell Me on a Sunday is better known to Broadway audiences as the "Song" in
Song and Dance, the musical that opened at the Royale Theatre in 1985 and ran for a little over a year. Bernadette Peters won a Tony for playing Emma, a British hat designer struggling with love in modern day Manhattan (Betty Buckley also sank her teeth in the role after Peters). Needless to say, Emma is a juicy part, allowing an actress a solo song cycle that features such beautiful Lloyd Webber ballads as "Unexpected Song," "Nothing Like You've Ever Known" and "Tell Me On a Sunday." The latest star to take on the challenge is Tony nominee
Alice Ripley, who is performing in the show at the Kennedy Center through January 12, 2003. Broadway.com headed down to the nation's capital to see the show and catch up with the always-delightful diva.
