Lea Michele called it "a magical night," and she wasn't kidding: The final
Spring Awakening performance of Michele and her Tony-nominated co-star, Jonathan Groff, on Sunday, May 18, was a celebration from start to finish. Hundreds of the show's most fervent fans packed the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and greeted Michele with a standing ovation before she had sung her first note. Each number involving Michele and Groff drew lusty cheers, and "Totally Fucked" ended with another standing-o that continued for five minutes, reducing Michele to tears and inspiring happy laughter from Groff. The performance had an "old-home-week" feel, with producers Ira Pittelman and Tom Hulce and librettist Steven Sater seated down front with the two stars' family and friends. (Hulce relinquished his seat for the second act to Frank Wood, who created the "Adult Men" roles during the show's original off-Broadway run.) Departe
