Ye Gods! Jonathan Groff & Co. Open The Bacchae in Central Park

There’s nothing like Greek tragedy on a summer night—and if you can’t see it in an amphitheater in Athens, the next best place is the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. On August 24, a starry crowd came together for the opening of Euripedes’ The Bacchae, the second production of the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park series for 2009. Set to a new score by modern master Philip Glass, JoAnne Akalaitis’ production stars Spring Awakening alum Jonathan Groff as the diabolical god Dionysus and features a full on-stage chorus. Broadway.com made the scene to bring you all the doings of the royal house of Thebes.
