Opening Night at 54, Audra McDonald Soars in 110 in the Shade
In the final opening night of the 2006-07 Broadway season, Audra McDonald brought the house to its feet at Studio 54 on May 8, starring as the lonely Texan Lizzie Curry in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's rustic Depression-era musical 110 in the Shade. After the curtain calls we celebrated McDonald's triumphant return to Broadway —having last graced the Great White Way three years ago by winning the fourth of her four Tony Awards for her performance opposite Sean Combs in the smash hit revival of A Raisin in the Sun—by toasting the lady and her talented co-stars and creative team from 110 in the Shade alongside a slew of Broadway notables at the glamorous Guastavino's on the east side of Manhattan, under the 59th Street Bridge.
