33 Variations on March 9. The debut of Moises Kaufman’s high-concept drama marked the Broadway return of two legends—Beethoven and
Jane Fonda—and lured stars of many stripes to the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. There were Oscar winners (
Marcia Gay Harden,
Geoffrey Rush), decorated authors (Joan Didion, Tony Kushner, Eve Ensler), Broadway and television icons (
David Hyde Pierce, Valerie Harper) and others who a
