Faith Prince, Tom Wopat & Harvey Fierstein Open A Catered Affair in San Diego
The show may be outta town, but we weren't. Indeed, it was our pleasure to attend the opening night of the pre-Broadway tryout of Harvey Fierstein and John Bucchino's musical adaptation of A Catered Affair—famously penned for television by Paddy Chayefsky in 1955 before becoming a feature film by Gore Vidal starring Bette Davis, Ernest Borgnine and Debbie Reynolds the following year— at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre on Sunday, September 30. Set in the Bronx in 1953, A Catered Affair tells the story of a couple who must choose between putting their life savings into a new family business or purchasing the luxury of a catered dinner at their only daughter's wedding.
