John Malkovich got back to his roots when he saw the Steppenwolf Theatre Company's
August: Osage County at the Imperial Theater on March 30. The celebrated actor has a lustrous history with the Chicago-based company. Malkovich quit college back in 1976 to join the group, and soon roped in future Steppenwolf alumni such as Joan Allen and John Mahoney. In 1988, Steppenwolf presented the world premiere of
The Grapes of Wrath, a production that won the Tony Award for Best Play. They've got another Tony contender with
August, which features Steppenwolf co-founder Jeff Perry in a supporting role.
