Summer in New York City has been cooler than usual so far, but make no mistake—things are heating up on Broadway with the arrival of Burn the Floor, the international ballroom dance hit at the Longacre Theatre. The show, a modern spin on classic ballroom, features live music, smoking hot choreography and 20 of the world’s best ballroom dancers, including Dancing with the Stars’ resident “Fred and Ginger,” Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Produced in part by Dancing with the Stars’ spitfire judge Carrie Ann Inaba, the show will be the first all-ballroom production ever to hit Broadway. “My grandfather built Australia’s first ballroom dancing school in 1931,” director and choreographer Jason Gilkison explained during a press event at the Longacre on July 24. “If he were alive today to see ballroom dancing on television and Broadway, he’d be more than proud. And we’re going to do Broadway proud!” If the steamy photos from the show’s sneak peek are any indicator, we’d say he’s right. Click on to see for yourself!
