Chicago gave a red-hot matinee performance for a battalion of U.S. Marines on November 9. In town to honor the 2008 New York City Veterans Day Parade, the military unit was also celebrating a collective birthday—their 233rd one, to be exact! Yup, the U.S. Marines Corps first formed during the American Revolutionary War, when a resolution was passed to raise two battalions of troops on November 10, 1775. Today, they’re the largest marine force in the world, with 198,000 serving in active duty and 40,000 on reserves. And yet, one wonders how all that high-octane manpower would hold up in the face of Broadway bad girls Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart.
