The Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys is dedicated to the creation of strong, ethical black men. Pharus wants nothing more than to take his rightful place as leader of the school's legendary gospel choir. What Is the Story of Choir Boy?
Set at the Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys, an elite academy for African-American youth, Choir Boy centers on five members of the school's celebrated choir. The choir’s gifted leader, Pharus, is effeminate, but whether or not he is actually gay is initially unclear. However, his fellow singers have made their minds up and verbally abuse him. The headmaster and a teacher on the verge of retirement try to intervene and confront the tensions surrounding adolescent feelings. Will Pharus conform to expectations and gain the respect he needs?
