Goodbye to Baltimore: Darlene Love's Farewell to Hairspray
Hairspray's beloved Darlene Love, who brings down the house as loud and proud Motormouth Maybelle, bid a tearful adieu on April 20 to the show that has been her home for over two years. The venerable veteran recording artist, whose tunes, including "Today I Met (The Boy I'm Gonna Marry)", earned her a Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame nod, joined the cast in July 2005, and she's been belting out numbers like the soul anthem "I Know Where I've Been" ever since. The actress will be succeeded by her good friend and fellow diva Jenifer Lewis. Lewis joined Love and the rest of Hairspray family, including original film director John Waters, at the Palm for a proper send-off following Love's final heartfelt performance.
