In a Los Angeles recording studio just before Memorial Day weekend, a different kind of memorial was being observed for musical theater fans, when a trio of Tracy Turnblad's put their voices in harmony for the new movie soundtrack of
Hairspray (due in record stores July 10) . Indeed, as a special bonus track of "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now," (which was cut in the final film, opening nationwide July 20) Nikki Blonsky, the movie's new Tracy, was joined by the Broadway original, Tony winner Marissa Jaret Winokur, and John Waters' initial pick for the flick that got this whole
Hair ball rolling, the Tracy of his 1988
Hairspray movie, Ricki Lake. In the recording studio, we caught a few exclusive snapshots as the ladies let us know that big girls don't cry… they sing!
