We have often talked about having a special section here on Broadway.com called “It’s about time.” If we were to have such a section, this Photo Op of Shrek star Brian d’Arcy James receiving one of the stage world’s most coveted honors would surely make the cut. The Broadway fave received a caricature at famed Theater District hangout Sardi’s on September 10, and no one deserves it more. Surrounded by a bevy of co-stars and loved ones, James, the amiable, bushy-browed Broadway stalwart, received his cartoon tribute with a smile. We snapped a few pics of the actor, whose long list of New York theater credits includes Sweet Smell of Success, Titanic, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Apple Tree, The Good Thief, The Wild Party, Floyd Collins and Next to Normal. We could go on and on—in fact, James already has his post-Shrek gig lined up: He’ll star opposite Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone in MTC’s Time Stands Still in January.
