South Pacific Revival Goes on the Record
You can bet your sweet "Honey Bun" there wasn't much elbow room at Legacy Studios on April 15, when the entire company of South Pacific and its 30-piece orchestra showed up to record the acclaimed Rodgers & Hammerstein revival. Produced by David Caddick and David Lai, the new cast recording has some tough acts to follow, since the beloved film soundtrack and original 1949 cast album are still available. But anyone who's experienced Kelli O'Hara's performance of "A Wonderful Guy" or opera singer-turned-Broadway heartbreaker Paulo Szot's "This Nearly Was Mine" will no doubt secure their own copy on May 27, when the album comes out on the Sony BMG Masterworks label.
