Revival of David Rabe's Streamers Storms the Laura Pels Theatre
The Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of award-winning military play Streamers invaded the Laura Pels Theatre on November 11, opening off-Broadway to an eager audience at (appropriately) full attention. Written by Vietnam War veteran David Rabe shortly after his discharge from the Army, the show follows fours soldiers (Hale Appleman, Ato Essandoh, Brad Fleischer and J.D. Williams) anxiously awaiting their deployment—possibly to the escalating Vietnam War—after completing boot camp in 1965. The cast, rounded out by John Sharian, Larry Clarke, Cobey Mandarino, E.J. Cantu, Jason McDowell-Green and Axel Avin Jr., fell quickly into line for their opening bows, then marched in formation on to their well-earned opening night celebration.
