Musical theater legend Angela Lansbury is revered on Broadway for a series of iconic roles. In fact, Lansbury won four Tony Awards during a long and fruitful career on the Great White Way--for leading roles in
Mame, Dear World, Gypsy and
Sweeney Todd, in which she originated the role of mad meat pie maker Mrs. Lovett. Lansbury found herself back in the company of the demon barber of Fleet Street when she attended the smash hit revival of the
Sweeney at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 15. After the standing ovation, Lansbury reconnected with old friend Stephen Sondheim and mingled with the cast--including fab new Mrs. Lovett Patti LuPone--backstage. Did we miss this historic event? Of course not!
