Just when you thought the competition was over, the cast of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee stepped up to the microphone once again, but this time it was not to spell--it was to sing! The ensemble went into Avatar Studios to record the cast album, produced by Sh-K Boom, on April 5. After a more-than-successful off-Broadway run, Spelling Bee, which features a score by William Finn, is set to arrive on Broadway, holding its nail-biting competition at the Circle in the Square Theatre starting on May 10. This comedic musical stars Derrick Baskin, Deborah S. Craig, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Dan Fogler, Lisa Howard, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Jose Llana, Jay Reiss and Sarah Saltzberg and pokes fun at pre-teen overachievers who feel the pressures of competing in what they feel is one of the most important spelling bees of their stressful adolescent lives.
