First Breeze of Summer Blows into Signature Theatre

While it may technically be the end of summer, the revival of playwright Leslie Lee's The First Breeze of Summer blew into the Signature Theatre as scheduled August 21, ushering in the beginning of Signature's fall season. A rich family drama about the effect of a failing Southern matriarch's past on her now grown-up family, the production stars Tony Award winner Leslie Uggams and America's Next Top Model veteran Yaya DaCosta, whose breezy performances won over audiences on the exciting opening night. With its strong supporting cast (featuring John Earl Jelks and real-life brothers Jason and Brandon Dirden) and spirited energy, this one made summer feel like it was starting all over again.
