Here to remind the world that the word “toxic” isn’t just the name of a Britney Spears hit, the new off-Broadway show The Toxic Avenger officially opened at New World Stages on April 6. A musical adaptation of the cult movie from 1984, it tells the tale of an incurable nerd from the fictitious Tromaville, New Jersey, who gets tossed into a vat of radioactive waste by a politician's flunkies - only to emerge as Toxie, a green mutant with superhuman strength! Featuring a score written by David Bryan, a founding member of Bon Jovi, and Joe Dipietro, who also wrote the book, the cheeky production was reanimated by John Rando, the Tony Award-winning director of Urinetown, and debuted last fall at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick. Now it's ready to take Manhattan, so click on to see more pics of The Toxic Avenger’s big NYC debut!
