Viva Vanya! Gyllenhaal, Sarsgaard & O'Hare Open in Classic Chekhov

The great Anton Chekhov is experiencing a renaissance on New York stages, with three of his four masterpieces receiving starry revivals this season. The latest: Uncle Vanya, which opened at Classic Stage Company on February 12 with a cast led by Denis O'Hare as the title character, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Yelena, Peter Sarsgaard as Astrov and Mamie Gummer as Sonya. Director (and former Vanya) Austin Pendleton attracted this super-talented quartet to CSC's small theater, and after the opening night bows, he and his company braved a windy night to celebrate at the East Village eatery Pangea.
