Kicking off Wicked’s fifth year on Broadway, star Kerry Ellis and composer Stephen Schwartz made their way to the Empire State Building's famed observation deck on October 27 for a fitting opening ceremony. In honor of Wicked Day, the landmark skyscraper was going green, so to speak, and Ellis and Schwartz were there for the ceremonial lighting. After they flipped the switch, it was back to the Gershwin Theatre and more rehearsals for The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken, a star-studded, one-night-only concert performance to benefit Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project.
