Xanadu rolled into view for a sneak peek at the 42nd Street Rehearsal Studios on May 9. Drawn from the 1980 Olivia Newton-John movie musical about a mythical muse who inspires an out-of-sorts hunk on Venice Beach to create a fabulous roller skating disco called Xanadu, the Broadway production stars Kerry Butler (
Little Shop of Horrors) in the Newton-John role and former Broadway
Saturday Night Fever headliner James Carpinello as her hunky beach bum. Rounding out the principal cast are Broadway faves Mary Testa, Jackie Hoffman and Tony Roberts (in the Gene Kelly role). With a book by Douglas Carter Beane (
The Little Dog Laughed) and a score that includes the film's original hits "Suddenly (the wheels are in motion)" and "I'm Alive," how could we pass on checking out what they've got i
