Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. This acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today… and always.
Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone—as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
"This show exceeded all my expectations. I love the story of love and hope even in the midst of dark times. The cast was absolutely incredible and brought the story to life in a beautiful way. This is a smaller cast but they fill the stage in a wonderful way. The stage design and costume designs were immaculate. I loved the intimacy in the room. I wish I could see it again and again. "

"From the soul-shaking vocals to the intricate choreography, the show breathes through the cast. Lillias White makes a powerful guide through Hadestown for the entire theater. Phillip Boykin gives a depth to Hades along with wit and presence. Allison Russell energized the audience as Persephone with her unforgettable ownership of the stage. Maia Reficco brings such soul with her effortless vocal delivery and has perfect chemistry with Jordan Fisher who is absolutely phenomenal and constantly beaming with gumption and passion. His voice makes every song unforgettable. Truly a Star! The whole band gives the production a beautiful heartbeat with overflowing talent. It is apparent that everyone involved in this production is connected with heart. It’s a beautiful thing to watch that unfold, through the joyful and tearful moments on stage."

"What a cast! We traveled mostly to see Jordan Fisher, but I was impressed the same by the rest of the cast, everyone of it. Great musicality. Phillip Boykin voice is incredible. It reminded me the late James Earl Jones."

"The performance of Hadestown left an indelible mark on my soul. This modern retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, woven together with the tale of Hades and Persephone, is nothing short of theatrical brilliance. From the moment the lights dimmed, the show cast its spell, transforming the theater into a poetic dreamscape where love, doubt, and fate dance in perfect harmony.
The music is a masterful blend of folk, jazz, and blues that burrows deep into your consciousness. Songs like "Wait for Me" and "Road to Hell" showcase the extraordinary vocal talents of the cast while driving the narrative forward with emotional precision. The way the music shifts between the warmth of the world above and the industrial harshness of Hadestown below is simply genius.
The staging is a visual feast, with the innovative use of rotating platforms and lighting creating seamless transitions between the mortal world and the underworld. The ensemble's movements, choreographed with intricate precision, add layers of meaning to every scene, transforming simple gestures into powerful storytelling moments.
What truly sets Hadestown apart is how it makes an ancient myth feel urgently relevant to our times. In a world of spectacle-driven theater, Hadestown reminds us that the most powerful stories are those that speak to the heart's deepest truths. It's a rare production that manages to be both timeless and timely, intimate and epic, devastating and hopeful. "
"I have not been to a show in New York for many years, so I wasn't sure what to expect when going to a smaller theater. I was pleasantly surprised! This show relates to several different story lines, and was easy and wonderful to follow. My favorite scene was when Mr. Hades and his wife reconnected and danced - it was beautiful! This show has reminded me how much I love theater!"

"The performers were so talented. Jordan was on his day off & Brandon stepped up & hit it out of the park. Sad not to have seen Jordan, but was not disappointed. Maia was spectacular & supporting cast was great. "

"I could watch this show again and again. The music, the energy, the staging are all fantastic. Whether you know the Greek stories of Opheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone or not you will enjoy the show because the themes are universal. The theater was nice. It’s older, but well run. I have seen the tour cast twice and if I was closer to NYC, I would come and see this again and again. Seeing this three different times wasn’t enough."

"It was incredible. I loved all of it. The night we went we had the understudy of Orpheus and he was great. Maia was absolutely terrific and I wish she could have a longer run. The lady who played Hermes had the most incredible jazz voice , she was so addictive to watch. The rest of the cast were also amazing. I have no faults !!"

"Hadestown was an amazing show. The theatre was gorgeous. I loved the musicians being incorporated into the show rather than in an orchestra pit, I loved the set design, all of the actors brought their characters to life in the best way and the way the ensemble (The Workers) were used was so impactful. Loved it!"
"Loved this show. Amazing cast, lyrics and such a creative adaptation. Beautiful old theater. One complaint only — no leg room! We are both 5’9” tall and the seats are SO close together it’s uncomfortable — and also caused me to get whacked in the head by the lady behind me. Great staff — thoroughly enjoyed. "

"We came to see Hadestown because Allison Russell joined the cast. From the moment in line to enter even the theaters staff was amazing! It’s hard to understand how a small space can transformed into this magical story telling space. No matter where you look there was always something happening. We walked away talking about the chemistry on stage, how much we felt like we were in Hadestown, and how underrated the Fates are. Can’t wait to see it again!
We sat front row on the left side. The lights flashed on us often. However you get a truly immersive experience. Looking forward to experiencing this again from a different perspective.
The worst part for us was the excitement and waiting to get into the theater. It was difficult to contain our emotions.

"My friends are very into theatre, and I'm the only one who isn't a diehard fan but I might become one after seeing this show. Hadestown is incredible all around.
I went now specifically to see Jordan Fisher's Orpheus - which was STELLAR, his voice gave me chills all the way in the nosebleeds - but came out loving all of the cast. The lighting, props, and turntable/platform were used in a myriad of thoughtful, clever ways to tell a dynamic story on stage.
I've never felt so immersed in a show before. Truly, truly amazing. If you haven't gone, consider going for sure. "
