About Once Upon a Mattress

WE’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER MOAT…

Direct from its sold-old, record-breaking New York City Center Encores! run, Once Upon a Mattress returns to Broadway for the first time since 1996. Two-time Tony® winner Sutton Foster gives what The New York Times calls an “ebullient, joyful, perfectly goofy” performance as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone alongside royalty of stage and screen, Michael Urie.

Newly adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), this New York Times Critic’s Pick introduces the unapologetically eccentric Winnifred to a repressed kingdom, where she charms, delights, and dances her way to the top… of a stack of mattresses.

Book your tickets now to this uproarious production – “it will restore your fealty to the throne!” (Observer).

Such a lighthearted entertaining show
"With so much stress in the world right now, this show is the perfect way to spend 3.5 hours. The cast seems to really enjoy both the material and one another. There were several children in attendance at the performance we were seeing. They were laughing and giggling, and any double entendre was lost on the children. Perfect family show and the costuming and staging is really fun. "

Blown away
"Sutton Foster's entrance, and pretty much everything she did thereafter, are the high point of my 75 years of seeing Broadway shows. "

You won’t sleep through this.
"No one since Lucille Ball has squeezed so much humor out of grapes. Mattress is a tour de farce for Sutton Foster, who dominates the stage from the moment she climbs the castle wall yet still lets her costars shine. One warning if you’re in the front rows: Think Gallagher. "

Fabulous
"Excellent casting on all characters. Sutton Foster is perfection itself—made for this part, as was Carol Burnett before her. "

Sutton and cast were amazing
"Been a fan of Sutton Foster for years and she nailed the role of Winifred as if it were created for her. She made it her own and also honored Carol Burnett's legacy. The cast was amazing as well. LOVED IT!!!"

Absolutely Perfect.
"We flew in from Seattle just to see this show- it was absolutely worth it. We were laughing through the whole thing. Having seen well over 30 Broadway shows in my life, I can honestly say I have never seen a cast have that much obvious fun on stage before. It was an absolute delight to be able to witness this in person. Would have loved to be able to see it again. "

JUST THE BEST, MOST ENJOYABLE SHOW I HAVE SEEN IN A LONG WHILE.
"With the humorous background story of the princess and the pea this production is so well crafted and performed that you just are smiling through the entire performance; except of course when you're laughing out loud."

Witty fun
"I was disappointed when Sutton Foster cancelled attending the show I purchased but found the understudy to be quite good. I now no longer will focus on the star of the show as there is quite a bit of talent in these shows. This particular show was a lot of fun, goofy and witty! Left smiling!"

"The entire cast was amazing! They were all very talented and high energy. Although we were disappointed that Sutton Foster was not able to perform, Kara Lindsay did an awesome job."

Very strong cast
"Sutton Foster rivals Steve Martin for physical comedy and captures some of Lucille Ball’s great facial expressions—and she can sing. Whole cast is strong. Go for the show, not the predictable plot or forgettable songs. Great evening of entertainment."
